Authentic materials: We use the best types of paper for our paper lamps. We source the paper used for our washi paper lamps from the same legacy supplier used in Noguchi’s original Akari designs, preserving the integrity of tradition and craft.

We currently use three types of paper across our collection: rice paper, cotton paper, and Japanese washi paper.

Rice paper has a delicate, translucent quality that gives each piece an airy elegance—perfect for those seeking a budget-friendly option with a refined touch.
Cotton paper is sturdier than rice paper, making it ideal for more sculptural or complex lamp shapes that require added structure.
Japanese washi paper is known for its soft, serene diffusing effect. We source our washi from a heritage paper maker in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
