Off and on

A quiet sphere by day. The center of the room by night.

Luna is a simple shape done properly — a full, balanced sphere of Japanese washi over hand-ribbed bamboo. Off, it reads as soft sculpture overhead. On, the whole shade glows evenly and the room settles around it. Same lamp, same spot. Only the switch changes.

Glow off An off-white washi globe with fine bamboo ribbing — calm, sculptural, never plastic-bright.
Glow on Washi turns the bulb into a warm, shadowless glow. No hot spot, no visible bulb — just a lit moon.

Made by hand

Luna means “moon.” Each one is ribbed by hand, one bamboo strip at a time.

Every Luna starts as thin bamboo rods stretched over a wooden form, then wrapped in strips of authentic Japanese washi. The hand-ribbing alone can take close to an hour per shade — which is why the sphere stays full and balanced for years instead of sagging in months.

Authentic Japanese washi, from Gifu
Sourced from a Gifu Prefecture paper maker crafting washi since 1956 — the same supplier trusted by the world's best-known paper lamp artisans. Long mulberry fibers make it 2× more tear-resistant than the rice paper in most globe lamps, and its natural off-white tone glows warm, never stark.
Hand-ribbed bamboo frame
Bamboo is chosen for its resilience and flexibility. Each rod is bent and set by hand so the shade holds a fuller, rounder shape — and its warm tone shows softly through the paper when lit.
Balanced seams, even spacing
Clean seams and consistent rib spacing all the way around. That structure is what gives Luna its smooth, uninterrupted form — no dents, no sagging, no uneven stretching.
Universal cord hook
A standard E-shape hook at the top fits any pendant cord set — hardwired or plug-in — so Luna works with the cord and bulb you choose. Cord set sold separately.

The gathering effect

Hang one round light, and the whole room turns toward it.

Most ceiling fixtures light a room and disappear. Luna does the opposite. Its glow pulls the eye up, softens everything under it, and gives people a reason to linger a little longer.

A ceiling light nobody looks at

A focal point that anchors the room

One oversized, evenly lit sphere reads as sculpture, not fixture. Over a dining table, a bed or a sofa, it becomes the thing the room is arranged around.

Flat, hospital-bright overhead light

Warm light that settles a space

Washi diffuses instead of glaring. Faces look rested, wood looks richer, and 8pm finally feels like evening.

Everyone drifts to their own corner

A glow people gather under

Soft, centered light does what a bare bulb can't: it makes the table the warmest spot in the house — for dinners that last hours and conversations that stretch even longer.

Why hüga

Every marketplace sells a paper globe. Very few are made like this.

The round shape is easy to copy, and Amazon, Etsy and dropship listings do — for a fraction of the price. What they leave out is the paper, the bamboo and the hour of hand-ribbing that keep a sphere looking like a sphere.

Questions before you buy

Which size should I get?

Sizes are the shade diameter. As a rule of thumb: 50 cm (19.7 in) suits bedrooms, entryways and smaller tables; 60 cm (23.6 in) is the go-to for a standard dining table or living room; 80 cm (31.5 in) and up make a statement in large, open-plan or high-ceilinged rooms. Luna reads a little smaller once it's hanging in an open space, so when you're torn between two sizes, go up.

Are the paper pendants hardwired or plug-in?

Both options work — it's entirely up to you. Our paper pendants are designed with a universal E-shape cord hook that securely attaches the cord set to the shade, allowing you to pair your lamp with whichever cord set and bulb best suits your space. This means you can choose a hardwired cord set for a clean, ceiling-mounted installation, or a plug-in swag cord for tool-free setup — whichever fits your room and style. Cord sets are purchased separately unless otherwise noted on the product listing, giving you full flexibility to customize the look and function of your pendant.

What type of bulb or cord set should I use?

All of our paper floor lamps and table lamps are compatible with standard E26 or E27 light bulbs, giving you flexibility to choose the bulb that best suits your space.

For ceiling pendant styles, the cord set is sold separately. Our shades are designed with a universal E-shape cord hook that securely attaches to any standard cord set on the market, so you can pair your lamp with the cord and bulb of your choice. For the most flattering glow, we recommend warm-white LED bulbs (2700K or lower), as LEDs emit minimal heat, protecting the paper shade and extending the life of your lamp.

Is it safe? It's paper around a bulb.

Luna is UL safety certified. Pair it with a warm-white LED bulb (2700K or lower) — LEDs run cool, and the bulb hangs in the center of the shade, well clear of the paper.

Is the paper fragile? Will it tear easily?

No, the paper used in our lamps was intentionally selected to be contract-grade — meaning it is built to resist tearing while still diffusing the soft, warm glow that makes paper lamps so inviting. The majority of our lamps use Japanese washi paper, a type of paper made from long mulberry fibers that has been prized for over a thousand years for its natural strength, flexibility, and luminous quality. Compared to the lower-grade rice paper used in many mass-market paper lamps, our paper is 2x more durable and significantly more resistant to tearing, yellowing, and warping. That said, like all delicate handmade products, paper lamps should still be handled gently — especially when moving, dusting, or installing.

How do I clean my paper lamp?

To clean a paper lamp, gently dust the surface with a soft, dry brush, feather duster. Avoid water, cleaning sprays, or damp cloths, as moisture can warp the paper shade and leave permanent marks. For detailed folds or pleats, a soft makeup brush works well. Regular light dusting prevents buildup and preserves the lamp's appearance.

How long do paper lamps last?

A well-made paper lamp can last for decades. Our paper lamps are built to contract-grade standards, meaning they are constructed for the durability required in commercial environments such as hotels, restaurants, and design showrooms — not just occasional home use.

Longevity ultimately depends on three factors: build quality, the environment the lamp is placed in, and ongoing care. To extend the life of your paper lamp, keep it in a space with stable, moderate humidity, avoid placing it near open flames, candles, or high-heat sources, and dust it gently with a soft brush as needed. With these simple precautions, your lamp is built to be lived with for years to come.

Is the assembly process easy?

Yes, our paper lamps are designed for easy at-home assembly and most customers complete setup in under 10 minutes without tools. Lamps arrive partially assembled, typically requiring only the cord set attachment or shade-to-base connection. Every lamp includes illustrated step-by-step instructions, and our customer care team is available to help if any questions come up.

How are you different from other paper lamp sellers?
  • Expert craftsmanship: Our artisans have, on average, over 10 years of experience in paper lamp making. Because all of our paper lamps are handmade, each piece you receive is unique, and carefully constructed with lasting skill and care.
  • Made to last: Our paper lamps are all contract grade, meaning they were all made to last. While alternatives from other larger home retailers prioritize low price points - often at the expense of materials and finish - ours are thoughtfully designed and constructed to be durable, timeless, and quietly beautiful. Each artisan is specifically trained and guided to ensure every detail of our products reflects the care, precision, and quality we stand for.
  • Trusted quality: We work with the same manufacturer trusted by premium design retailers like Design Within Reach (DWR)—a name known for excellence in modern design.
  • Authentic materials: We use the best types of paper for our paper lamps. We source the paper used for our washi paper lamps from the same legacy supplier used in Noguchi’s original Akari designs, preserving the integrity of tradition and craft.
  • Design with intention: Every curve, fold, and fiber is considered—because to us, quality is not a feature; it’s a philosophy.
Are you affiliated with Noguchi or The Noguchi Museum?

No, we are not affiliated with Isamu Noguchi or The Noguchi Museum. Our paper lamps are inspired by his iconic designs and pay tribute to their timeless beauty. But we’ve also added our own design elements in various details to help you create a warm, inviting home without the gallery-level price tag.

What if it doesn't work in my space?

You have 30 days to return it, and a 365-day warranty on the shade itself. Full details — including return shipping and restocking — are on our returns page.
