The Ellipse Washi Paper Lampshade features a softly elongated, oval silhouette that brings a sense of calm and quiet sophistication to any room. Handcrafted from authentic Japanese washi paper made of kōzo (楮) bark, this shade showcases the beauty of nature through its subtle fibers and organic inclusions. The longer, more flexible kōzo fibers lend the paper remarkable strength and a gentle translucence that diffuses light in a warm, soothing glow.

Handmade with Japanese washi paper
Unlike other paper lamps on the market, our Ellipse paper shade is made with authentic Japanese washi paper, made from the inner bark of mulberry trees, and known for its kōzo (楮) fibers — celebrated for their exceptional fiber length and flexibility, which make the pendant shade both stronger and more durable than ordinary varieties.
Nature, in the paper
Look closely and you'll see small flecks scattered across the washi paper shade. They're not imperfections — they're fragments of kōzo bark from the paper mulberry tree, deliberately kept in the sheet to preserve the paper's natural character. This is wabi-sabi in physical form — the Japanese philosophy that celebrates imperfection, nature, and individuality. Most modern paper is made to be uniform. This one is made to feel like the tree it came from. Every sheet is different. Yours won't look like anyone else's.
Supported by natural bamboo
Thin bamboo rods form the inner frame of the lampshade, giving it gentle strength and a naturally organic feel. Each rod is carefully hand-shaped to follow the lamp’s curves, adding subtle texture and warmth while keeping the structure light and balanced.

I already left a video review but I wanted to share my images as well. I love the atmosphere it added to my dining space. It feels so warm and inviting. I paired it with their pendant cord kit and although a little intimidating, I was able to get it installed all on my own! I did have some small hiccups with my order but customer service was amazing with assisting me and getting everything situated. I’m so happy with my purchase! :)

I absolutely love this pendant shade. The washi paper gives off such a soft, warm glow and completely changed the feeling of our dining room. It makes the space feel cozy and elevated without being overly formal, and the shape is beautiful even when the light is turned off. I also love how lightweight and airy it looks in the room. It adds so much character without making the space feel heavy or crowded. Paired with a warm bulb, the lighting at night is especially beautiful. Overall, it’s one of my favorite additions to our home and exactly the warm, organic look I was hoping for.

For the price, I was happy with the quality! I separately bought a pendant light/attachment and bulb. We installed it in our kitchen and it just gives a much cozier vibe, we love it. :)

I love these akari lamps and slowly inserting them into our house's Cali vibe. I am not ready to install last lamp until after painting is complete. I do have a giant library with a vaulted ceiling that I will be looking for a large lamp. when finished I will send you photos etc

I loved the lamp in theory but the part where it holds the lamp cord came broken. I’ve attempted to contact support twice now with no response, but have kept receiving these requests to review the product. I can’t successfully and evenly hang this pendant without it and would appreciate a replacement for just the metal bracket. I’ve bought huga lamps before and I can attest that they have previously worked well! But unfortunately have had an unpleasant experience this time around.

A well-made paper lamp can last for decades. Our paper lamps are built to contract-grade standards, meaning they are constructed for the durability required in commercial environments such as hotels, restaurants, and design showrooms — not just occasional home use.
Longevity ultimately depends on three factors: build quality, the environment the lamp is placed in, and ongoing care. To extend the life of your paper lamp, keep it in a space with stable, moderate humidity, avoid placing it near open flames, candles, or high-heat sources, and dust it gently with a soft brush as needed. With these simple precautions, your lamp is built to be lived with for years to come.
No, the paper used in our lamps was intentionally selected to be contract-grade — meaning it is built to resist tearing while still diffusing the soft, warm glow that makes paper lamps so inviting. The majority of our lamps use Japanese washi paper, a type of paper made from long mulberry fibers that has been prized for over a thousand years for its natural strength, flexibility, and luminous quality. Compared to the lower-grade rice paper used in many mass-market paper lamps, our paper is 2x more durable and significantly more resistant to tearing, yellowing, and warping. That said, like all delicate handmade products, paper lamps should still be handled gently — especially when moving, dusting, or installing.
All of our paper floor lamps and table lamps are compatible with standard E26 or E27 light bulbs, giving you flexibility to choose the bulb that best suits your space.
For ceiling pendant styles, the cord set is sold separately. Our shades are designed with a universal E-shape cord hook that securely attaches to any standard cord set on the market, so you can pair your lamp with the cord and bulb of your choice. For the most flattering glow, we recommend warm-white LED bulbs (2700K or lower), as LEDs emit minimal heat, protecting the paper shade and extending the life of your lamp.
Both options work — it's entirely up to you. Our paper pendants are designed with a universal E-shape cord hook that securely attaches the cord set to the shade, allowing you to pair your lamp with whichever cord set and bulb best suits your space. This means you can choose a hardwired cord set for a clean, ceiling-mounted installation, or a plug-in swag cord for tool-free setup — whichever fits your room and style. Cord sets are purchased separately unless otherwise noted on the product listing, giving you full flexibility to customize the look and function of your pendant.
We currently use 2 types of paper across our collection: cotton paper, and Japanese washi paper.

Please check the "Dimensions and Materials" section on its product description page.
To clean a paper lamp, gently dust the surface with a soft, dry brush, feather duster. Avoid water, cleaning sprays, or damp cloths, as moisture can warp the paper shade and leave permanent marks. For detailed folds or pleats, a soft makeup brush works well. Regular light dusting prevents buildup and preserves the lamp's appearance.
Yes, our paper lamps are designed for easy at-home assembly and most customers complete setup in under 10 minutes without tools. Lamps arrive partially assembled, typically requiring only the cord set attachment or shade-to-base connection. Every lamp includes illustrated step-by-step instructions, and our customer care team is available to help if any questions come up.
No, we are not affiliated with Isamu Noguchi or The Noguchi Museum. Our paper lamps are inspired by his iconic designs and pay tribute to their timeless beauty. But we’ve also added our own design elements in various details to help you create a warm, inviting home without the gallery-level price tag.
